Discover her favorite self-care rituals and the rewards of building a brand dedicated to making the motherhood journey safer and simpler.
How has becoming a mom influenced your perspective on skincare and personal care products?
Motherhood has made me deeply aware of the ingredients in the products I use. I want to ensure everything I’m choosing is a safer option and also gentle, not just for myself but also for my kids. It’s crucial for me to choose clean, non-toxic products that deliver results without compromising safety. My approach has shifted from trying many products to focusing on a curated selection of high-quality essentials I trust and know are safer options.
What inspired you to create Sorette, and how did you turn that inspiration into reality?
The idea for Sorette was born from my own experiences navigating pregnancy and motherhood. I found it overwhelming to sift through the sea of products and information to find reliable, effective options. I wanted to create a welcoming space where women could easily find curated, non-toxic products without the guesswork. Bringing this vision to life involved assembling a Scientific Advisory Board, conducting thorough research, and partnering with like-minded brands that share our passion for making the motherhood journey safer and simpler.
What has been the most rewarding part of your journey with Sorette so far?
The most rewarding aspect has been hearing from other mothers who find our platform helpful and reassuring. It's incredibly fulfilling to know we've made their motherhood journey a little easier and more enjoyable. Additionally, collaborating with brands committed to quality and safety has been exciting, especially since many of the founders are mothers themselves!
Can you share any personal skincare tips or routines that have been particularly beneficial for you during your motherhood journey?
I keep my routine simple and effective—it's essential to make the most of the little "me time" we get as moms. In the morning after my workout, I refresh and hydrate my skin with a splash of water, a vitamin C serum, and a lightweight moisturizer, always finishing with SPF. At night, I focus on more active treatments to work while I sleep, like a serum that promotes cell turnover followed by a rich moisturizer or face oil. I adore face oils—they feel luxurious. For an extra touch of self-care, I’ll use a gua sha tool while watching a show in bed. And of course, staying hydrated, eating right, and getting enough sleep are crucial!
What advice would you give to new moms who are overwhelmed with the amount of information available about product safety?
Start with the basics and gradually build from there. Look for products with transparent ingredient lists and certifications from reputable sources. Don't feel pressured to replace everything at once; even small changes can make a big difference. A good strategy is to replace products with safer options as they run out. And remember, it's okay to ask for help and seek out trusted resources to make informed decisions. We’re always here to assist!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received about balancing motherhood and running a business?
The most valuable advice I've received is to establish boundaries and prioritize self-care. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the demands of work and motherhood, but taking time for yourself is essential. For me, a morning workout is a non-negotiable part of my routine. It helps me be a better mom, wife, and entrepreneur, and it's often when I come up with my best ideas! I also use time-blocking to separate work and family time. When I get home, I put my phone away to be fully present with my kids during dinner, bath, and bedtime. I can always catch up on work after they're asleep. There isn't a perfect "balance," but rather a give and take. Some days are more focused on motherhood, while others are more business-oriented. I'm lucky to have a supportive partner and nanny who can step in when I need to focus on Sorette. It's all part of the journey, as they say.
